Impact Statement
BSOTC empowers the Bay Area's Black and Brown communities through youth mentorship, narrative shift storytelling, and reentry support.
Youth Mentorship
The BSOTC Youth Mentorship Program at the Juvenile Justice Center leverages basketball and dedicated mentorship to teach essential life skills and values like discipline, teamwork, and personal growth to incarcerated youth. With a favorable mentor-to-participant ratio, our volunteer mentors provide personalized interactions. The program features combined basketball and mentorship sessions on Saturdays, and separate mentoring sessions on Wednesdays focused on conflict resolution, personal development, and goal setting. This holistic approach ensures physical fitness, emotional resilience, and meaningful discussions, fostering development and preparing youth for successful reintegration into society.
Our Programs
Community Engagement Scholarship
Our annual scholarship program is a cornerstone of our commitment to empowering youth and supporting their educational aspirations. Through this initiative, we provide financial assistance to outstanding graduating high school seniors, helping them pursue higher education and career goals. The scholarship program not only alleviates some of the financial burdens associated with continuing education but also recognizes and celebrates the achievements of these remarkable students. By investing in their futures, we aim to cultivate a new generation of leaders who will contribute positively to their communities and beyond.
Digital Media
Our digital media programming and media services provide comprehensive support and coverage to various organizations and community members. Through our weekly podcast and social media outreach, we distribute community event flyers and resource announcements, while our podcast segments—Sunday Conversation, Hidden Gems on Tuesday, and Educational Thursday—facilitate important discussions, showcase impactful community members, and offer educational presentations. Additionally, we offer extensive media services, including live streaming, videography, photography, aerial drone coverage, hosting, public speaking, and photo booth services, ensuring that events are accessible to all, especially elders and disabled community members who might otherwise be unable to attend. These combined efforts amplify community voices, bridge information gaps, and foster a more connected and resilient community.
